Hi all,

i'd like to join the contest, painting a daturazi.

By the way, my aim is to make a fighting scene - diorama between this daturazi and a wulver. Is it possible?
I know wulver isn't a grunt (maybe he is, certanly not a cheerleader) I mean, not considering the opponent for the voting purpose.

thank you, bie

The Wulver will not be considered for entry. If you make a diorama, please make sure to make it possible to take pictures of just the Daturazi.

Welcome to the campaign and Data-Sphere!

You could assembled them as "playable diorama", or in display tray. Just make a diorama with holes, and make sure all the ground matches when you put the bases in the right place. Similar to what some do for showing of armies or small units, a big scene with a place for every model.

Image
This a crude example, you could add bushes and other things, so the holes are even less obvious. And match the color better too.
If not worth saving, is it worth rewriting? What is more, was it worth writing?

Hi there, bit of a longtime lurker here but I've finally registered in interest of participating.

Though I'm wondering would you allow my Wu Ming to enter?

Since I'm trying to aim for an ISS sectorial, I generally want to use my Wu Ming as my actual baseline grunts (since Terracota's aren't allowed). Rather than Celestial guard cheerleaders.

Otherwise I'll be delayed as I try to pick up a box of Celestials rather than the unpainted Wu Ming I already have.

I haven't noticed it in the OP: what's the bonus for keeping to the season's theme, instead of pledging random minis?

Hello! Sorry for the delay in response, I was quite busy the entire weekend and was unable to get on the internet, let alone Data-Sphere.

I won't be allowing Wu Ming due to their point expense. Doesn't quite classify as a grunt, more of a trooper. That said, feel free to post your work on the Wu Ming! I always love seeing those guys.

Pierzasty wrote:I haven't noticed it in the OP: what's the bonus for keeping to the season's theme, instead of pledging random minis?

The bonus is that it's a requirement to be entered into the campaign. That said, feel free to post whatever you're painting. I'll try to clarify this in the OP.

Future seasons might be a touch more lax. Sorry if this is an issue for anyone. Season 2 is scheduled to start April 1st. OK... Maybe it should start April 2nd, so we can get past the shenanigans.

Welcome to Data-Sphere! I hope you enjoy your stay.

The Zhanshi Hacker and Celestial Guard Hacker are both fine. Send them on in!

The Ninja Hacker and Guilang Sniper won't qualify for the theme.

dlfleetw! I'm sorry but the Ectros is not going to qualify due to being a quite expensive HI with very special weapons.

Vanguards are fine. Anyat is fine. Raktorak will not be allowed. Which remote are you making, in particular? If it's the TR REM, then no. Sorry about that.

The Spektr will not count as a grunt. He's a rather high level skirmisher.

No problem! Thanks for the pictures! Even if it doesn't count towards entering the campaign, it's fun to see those WIPs of various models. Speaking of which, I like that blending you've done on the spektr! Very nicely done. Is that helmet manually blended, as well? Or is it just metals/light reflection? Pretty convincing paint job you've done there.

Mind sharing your techniques?

Tx, no problem.

I use airbrush for the blending and brush for detail, the helmet was done using first; Base with GW Rhino hide, then first highlight with Vallejo Game Color Bone White, then last highlight with P3 Morrow White (I didn't mix the color's). Then Morrow white for edging

The red was done in a similar process using Angel's recipe, base with Vallejo Vermillion (Don't have new color scarlet blood yet), mix Vallejo sunny skintone, the last highlight mix Vallejo game color bone white (Don't have ivory yet) then edge with the bone white. Shade with Vallejo Black Red (wash) and further shade with Vallejo Hull Red (wash) then blend with Vermilion (wash) (which I overdid slightly that's why highlights are not as visible. (Still learning myself ;-))

Not sure if I should be adding here but here is pic of my Brigada

That's fine and even encouraged to just upload more photos of your own work.

I see. So you wash a lot after airbrushing, huh? I tend to prefer doing all but the edge highlighting with my airbrush, myself, as I am horrible at not getting very distinct lines when using a brush.

Noticed you use both PP and Vallejo paints. I've tried the PP paints a little and didn't find them to my liking. Do you use them straight out of the bottle or do you "prep" them for actual use? I know GW paints require a pretty decent amount of watering down before they're really useful.
