There's some kind of plastic modeling line people use to do rigging on WW1 planes and what not, like a fishing line but slightly stretchy so it stays taut once attached. Forgot the name though.

ed: I've just been informed it's EZ Line.

Yet again i'm being reminded that i should find and visit a railroad modelling supplies store here in the city and see if i find something useful. From what i've seen in a quick search that EZ line sounds very very handy, and since it's for models it should already come in a calibre suited for our purposes.

Just don't tell them that you are a tabletop gamer. They have no idea what that is. At least according to the one person I know who gets his scratch-building supplies from a RR modelling shop. Also, it is a dying hobby over here.

Section9: I've used fishing line for water effects and it is not *friendly*. Iit won't stay in place without a lot of effort. It always wants to straighten. I suggested copper wire because it is available anywhere, and bends nicely and won't be fragile. And takes superglue nicely enough. Regular thread might do if soaked in PVA glue to force it into shape.

Now this EZ line is something I'll want to look into. Sounds handy. Thanks for the tip.

The Hsien, early, early WIP.

I got a new brush, a size 2 Raphael 8404. Nice. I am liking the larger brush. My old #1 Red Sable ( originally a photo retouching brush) finally gave out. :(

The Model RR magazines are always worth checking for scenery ideas. Unfortunately, most of the best-looking Model RR scenery ideas are too fragile for wargamers.

Thanks. it's the same set of colors that I've used on all of the Yu Jing, except the ninja got that bright yellow-green too.

Hsien at ~90% done.

Should finish tonight. So much of this mini hangs over the edges of the base. Ugh. rubbing off paint everywhere.

Unless you are shopping for scenery stuff. Just tell them that you have a 5yo kid at home, so you need to concentrate on durable scenery, even if it doesn't look quite as good.

Plexus, the sword hangs well over the base. I bent it (accidentally) when I started painting, almost immediately. It is right where a thumb would be. :x I decided to leave it bent until the very end, because it would only get bent again if I straightened it. Here's an 'aerial' view of the mini to illustrate what I'm saying.
Image
It fits nicely on a 40mm base, no? Even the coat hangs over the 25mm base.

The finished Hsein

I went with the studio coloration for the sword. Just to see how it would work out. I think the tip needs a bit more work. Maybe later.

Now to finish that Zuyong. And that'll finish the Yu Jing box, but I still have the Yu Jing HVT to paint sometime. I just got it for the wee chibi pig, which I painted almost immediately.

WIP on the final mini from the Yu Jing box. (yay!) It's maybe 50% done. Hope to finish it Saturday or Sunday.

Have I mentioned how much I am over painting things orange. Ugh. It's a nice deterrent to buying more Yu Jing minis-- just enough to have a playable 300 point army, and a few extras for some mix-n-match fun-- for a long time. Although that Su Jian... no. Finish what I have. Currently 106 that need to be finished.

Finished the Zuyong. Still have no clue what the name means. Don't really care either. May the devil take the color orange. Ugh.

Thanks Guys. I am happy with the final result. Not ecstatic, but happy. Maybe I get a Su Jian someday. Perhaps a few other minis to flesh out the faction. Just to have a 300 point force available. But, not until I finish the (checks spreadsheet) other 105 Infinity minis I need to finish painting.

Spektr done. After sitting on the shelf of shame for 2.5 years. Geez.
ImageImage
ImageImage
Amusing fact. The base coat for this was the same color-- red ochre-- that I used for the Yu Jing. Interesting that changing just the highlight color ( cadmium yellow deep for the Yu Jing, Zinc White for the Spektr) can produce such radically different results.

A nice mini. A bit awkward to paint with the sword and the scabbard always getting in the way. I thought that I would never get the sword straightened.

Very nicely painted. But the poker chip base just ruins it... Hope it's just for trial purposes...?

You're not the first to say that about the basing. It was supposed to make the mini easier to see on the table. I tried something different with the Yu Jing, as you may have noted. I think I'll eventually repaint the rest of the bases so that they are a solid color-- but still color coded-- too, and with more discrete LoF markings. I need to get more minis painted first. So many more minis...

Add me to the base sceptics. Every time you post something I'm like "well this looks great, just rip it of f that base and put it onto a decent one". It's probably the wood texture.

I like them too. They don't give you that mini diorama feeling some great bases do. but they work well on any table and I see some kind of cool video game overlay.

Works for me, however more scenic bases would fit to the great paintjobs.

Why not use transparent bases? These minis are awesomely painted - just get other bases.
Though I have to admit that the poker chip base technically seems to be a good idea...

Just my 2 cents...

Beautifully painted Yu Jing! I'm about to start my army and I really love those greens you used. Especially on the Ninja.

If I may, what greens are those? I have a Guilang I think would look really good with those Greens on hi suit under his trench coat.

Really nice painting!

Martha Stewart craft paint Spring Pasture and Americana Craft Paint Citron Green. The other green is just basic Hunter green. Not your standard mini painting paints. They work though.

I did not finish Yasbir in time for the Feb Painting Challenge. Meh. In truth, painting the mini killed my mojo for the month. That sword, always in the way. I need to paint a few minis that don't have so many bendy pieces sticking out for a while.
Early, early WIP-- colors basically blocked in.

Nailed it in one. I need to have something to clearly distinguish the minis on the table. Aging eyes... :( I could experiment with something a bit subtler. I also need something to make the bases easier to pick up. Hence, the side texturing. Not quite as extreme as the sanded base sides that Savonarola used, but for the same purpose.

I have to say, back in the days, when your figures appeared as stand ins in your terrain blog, I was a bit irritated about the bases.

But I have to say, they are somewhat your nick, at least in my book. That makes them really stand out and bond them to you. I bet there is noone else out there having these bases and aren't we all striving for individuality? :D

And AWESOME paintjobs btw :D
