That's exactly it! It gives instant shading and it gives you an anchor when it comes to lighting. And third, it still gives you a white base to work on in areas where color needs to be vibrant.

If you want brighter results, just change the colors, use grey as main coat, then white from above. Vallejo Surface Primer Grey is very light, you must use the new (Navy?) to get what others primer brands call grey. So it's all about picking the pair of colors that give what you want.

Another method is white or grey as base, then paint/wash all the cracks with black or dark grey, to get all the deep surfaces marked and even pre-lined. And all can be combined: general grey, white from above, black lines.
If not worth saving, is it worth rewriting? What is more, was it worth writing?

Ah... So I need to get the navy primer next time. I have a bottle of their gray and wasn't quite pleased with how light it is.

They added a bunch of shades. Even more now that they launched the Vallejo Game Air range (VGC pigments in VMA formulation). First were White 600, (light) Grey 601 and Black 602, then next batch added a handful of military related colors (greens, browns, etc, codes 603-615) and last batch added some bright primers (blue, metal, etc, codes 624-628). The other grey is USN Light Ghost Grey 615 and at the shop it looked darker than the 601, but it could be poor mixing or typical Vallejo naming "jokes" (VMA "Fluo Red" is pretty much orange).

You could try adding a small bottle of black if you got a big bottle of grey.

Re: Arachas paints Infinity (Icestorm Alguacile p.5)

I managed to get 3 minis done in total, before the demo we ran last Saturday. That's sad (the initial goal was to finish 3 Alguaciles, the Brigada, 3 Fusiliers and the ORC Trooper, which I later toned down to just the Nomads...) but at least I have 3 100% completed minis.

Going to keep pushing, I have a game coming up next week and I want to field painted minis. I'll be adding a Wildcat Spitfire (almost done, it's somewhere in this thread), the Brigada (almost done), the 3rd Alguacile (needs work) and top it off with adding two conversions: a Tomcat and an Intruder (facing Ariadna, kind of auto-include). A steep challenge, but I'm going to give it my all.

Meanwhile, the finished models (a rare moment of sunshine influenced the pics, sorry about that):

I like them!
Just a thought - you could draw some more lines around the rust on the bases (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bb/Rust_and_dirt.jpg), and perhaps some wobbly darker lines inside the rust patch (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a4/Rust_on_iron.jpg)

Will the cyan/turquoise also feature in the Mobile Brigada armour?

I've looked at a ton of rust pics and they're all different. I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out (though I appreciate the suggestion!). As it is, the minis have 3 layers of varnish over them to protect them and I have found peace with the fact that they are not 100% perfect (the sole reason I never get stuff done, which I'm trying to deal with by JUST GETTING SH*T DONE).

I use two kinds of colors for my guns on my Nomads: dark khaki and turquoise. By chance, you are seeing a collection of turquoise-gun-minis together. The Brigada and the 3rd Alguacile have the alternate color, as does the Wildcat. I like mixing it up, I did the same thing with the JSA minis in this thread (purple and bluegrey guns).

@harley. Thanks dude. :)

Apparently McMurrough is all that and a bag of potato chips in Corregidor. It turns out that I had a very old werewolf mini lying around for use in my Mordheim Norse band. Considering I have long since sold off everything GW, but for some reason kept the werewolf, I decided: why not convert him into McMurrough?

The werewolf was rather nude, so I decided to break out the green stuff and sculpt him a kilt. It's nothing fancy, I know, but... what do you guys think? :)

He still needs a Templar sword, by the way... anyone know where I could get one of those at this size?

I'm not sure about the scale, but maybe the Big Boris weapons sprue from Heresy would be what you're looking for, after all this doggy is supposed to be bigger than other 40K minis (am i right?), which are bigger than ours, so hopefully the sword should be just the right size

Just cut the plasticard and sharp the blade. Use double or retype layers if your postcard is too thin.

Got any Mordheim bits left over? There's a great two-handed sword model in the Mordheim plastic/Empire Militia sprue.

Right, so I'm back. Ish. One year and 8 months since I posted here.

In any case, I decided to finish my remaining two Nomad models.

Here's the whole group for now:

We won't discuss how long it's been since I finished a mini...
