Entries 2016 Q2 [Data-Sphere Painting Campaign]

by Claudius Sol » April 1st, 2016, 11:59 pm

Data-Sphere Painting Campaign!
2016 Q2

The goal of this campaign is to paint our models and show off our progress in an attempt to keep a steady and sustainable pace of painting.
Participants (and observers) are encouraged to share Work In Progress (WIP) pictures and divulge their techniques and recipes for their works.
High amounts of detail and creativity are encouraged, but not required for participation.

To enter:
  1. Post in the season's thread with your entry. Both an unpainted (with a timestamp) and finished picture of the entry.

The theme of this season is: Up Close and Personal!

Requirements, must have one of the following:
  1. CC value higher than 16
  2. Martial Arts
  3. Natural Born Warrior
  4. Dual Wield
  5. I-Kohl

That's it! If you have any questions, just ask and I'll try to get back to you within a day or two.

In the case of a partial profile that qualifies, all models of that profile must be submitted. Profiles such as the Antipode Assault Pack and Handler of Ariadna will require both the "CC" profile model and the "Associated" profile model (such as the Handler alongside the three Antipodes).

Sometimes, it's a good idea to bring a knife to a gun fight.

That's it!

At the end of each Season (this one ending on June 30th at 23:59:59 UTC)(NOTE: THIS MEANS THE ENTRY PERIOD IS NOW 3 MONTHS!), no more submissions will be accepted and the season's submissions will be compiled together. The following month, a poll thread will allow users to vote for which models they most like! There is no strict criteria on what you are casting your vote for! What this means is that users can vote on the "Most Improved", "Best Painted", "Most Interesting", "Most Ambitious", "Most Helpful", "Most Friendly", "Most Involved", "Most Funny", etc.! This form of voting doesn't prevent amateur or new painters from taking part. I know I'll always be voting for those that try their hardest. You'll also have multiple votes, so no worrying about which entries to pick! Votes are changeable at any time during the voting month. Voting for this season will end on July 31st at 23:59:59 UTC.

To vote:
  1. View the appropriate thread for the Season that you wish to vote for.
  2. View ALL entries for that month.
  3. Select your vote(s) from the Poll in the thread.

You're done!

Note: it's possible that the number of entries will require multiple poll threads. In this case, please view all threads.

Prizes!
But wait! There's more!

For each season, there will be 3 winners that will be featured.
Second and Third places will receive commemorative patches and feature in a blog post.
First place will receive the same prizes as Second and Third, as well as some Vallejo paints to reward their artistry.

Note to previous season winners: we're still working out the kinks on prize support and how to handle distribution. Sorry for the wait. We appreciate your understanding.

Best of luck!

If you have any questions, post 'em below and I'll respond in the thread.

Can I enter with 3 Umbras and 2 Morats? or only 1 per participant?
You just kidding right - 60% of Combined army fits this stage rules :toot:

You can enter as many models as you like!

They will all be included in a single "entry", though, if that makes sense.

Well dang it, now thanks to Section9 I have three ideas on what to paint next. I'm torn between the Umbra Legate, the Seraph, or a Hac Tao Hacker. I also have several knights, Melissa Ashcroft, the Angel book Joan, and a bunch of Yu Jing models which fit the criteria. Guess I'll finish up the Mayacast Q1 and see what Q2 is before I decide.

And I also just got an idea for doing all 3 of my first ideas as a cityscape diorama. It's completely beyond anything I've done but could be interesting... Gah, I hate how my ideas far outreach my time/talents in this medium!

If it's impressive, I'm sure it'll garner some votes!

My suggestion is to just find what is reasonable for you to do and stick with that! It can quickly become overwhelming and potentially turn you away.

You could also take it one at a time and just traverse it in an order of priority of what YOU want painted. There is no limit on how many models can be in your submission.

He's CC 23 and I've been wanting to get him looking good for weeks now. Please excuse the little smudges of black, he was recently stripped as we're changing up some paint schemes and bases :D

I apologize, but you wouldn't happen to have a time-stamped photo, would you? Where are you currently at with your painting?

No, but I haven't put any paint on him yet, so I can post one tomorrow when I have a moment. No apology necessary. :D

I couldn't get a timestamp on the picture itself but it was in my phone's camera info and I took a screenshot of that. Is this okay? I still have not gotten paint on the Father Knight as of today so if you need another pic with a timestamp on it, just let me know. :)

Yes. An easy thing to do for a time stamp is to take a photo with your phone, tablet, or computer in the background.

If using your computer or tablet, this is a good site: https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=clock

I hope that helps?

So, here's my first WIP shot. I've got the base colors on, and will soon be starting on details. Forgive the picture quality, I'm just taking shots with my camera as I go along

Got the Father Knight done! I've not actually submitted good pics of any of my models before now so taking these (and being as much of a perfectionist as I am) was kind of a pain in the butt and took longer than I'd care to admit to.

Indeed I did. We used to do free hand graffiti on our 'jacks when we played warmahordes, ww2 tank and fighter plane style stuff, and I got decent practice for doing stuff like that because of it.

So uh... I've been super busy lately.

https://www.flickr.com/gp/131900838@N06/8r6L06

First WIPs I had were with just the initial stages of the NMM Steel done and prepping my paint selection for the NMM Gold.
ImageUntitled by Bryant V, on Flickr

After that, I worked in a few sessions on the NMM Silver and Gold, getting advice from Angel Giraldez, himself!
ImageUntitled by Bryant V, on Flickr

Then I went on to work on the face.
ImageUntitled by Bryant V, on Flickr

Still have to do a slight bit on conversion to get her Ahoge* attached and then paint her hair.

If you're wondering the inspiration... I don't think it's really a secret, but this version of Joan looks suspiciously similar to someone other than her namesake...
Image

If you want to see more angles, feel free to hop over to the album I made for her on my Flickr.

*literally translates to "idiot hair", a small group of hair strands that (for one reason or another) refuse to comply with the rest of the hair and have a tendency to stick out.

Hey, spoilers for folks that haven't (yet) seen Fate/Zero or Fate/Stay Night!

Now go watch one or both. Better yet, go play the Visual Novels/games, though be aware that they're rated R18 (aka NC17 in the US).

Forget trying to get the damn spoiler code to work...

Looks GREAT, Claudius! Now CB just needs to make a Joan v3 on a bike...
