Blast from the past - this one was painted around a year ago, lvl 5 - as a test commission, along three other miniatures - each at a lower level. I had a lot of difficulties taking pictures back then and hadn't had a proper camera, light or even a setup. Fortunately for me the customer just sent him back to serve as a temlate for more miniatures :)

Hey guys,

TOHAA collection is finished :) +/- 40 days of hard work but it was totally worth the result. The customer is very happy and I am proud of this achievement. Here is the link to a video of entire collection (best colours - most real) and below some pictures.

Very nice!

I'd love to see that across the gaming table! It'd give me something else to blame for losing the game, at least... "I was distracted by the beautiful paintjobs!"

Hey guys. I'm guilty of neglecting this topic. My fault and to compensate a bit - here's what happened after Turquise ALEPH:

USAriadna lvl 3 'Fast & Furious'*
Image
Complete GALLERY,

USAriadna lvl 4 'Chrome & Shiny'*
Image
Complete GALLERY, and a 360* VIDEO,

*Both commissions were painted in a single go due to an almost identical colour scheme. This was an experiment possible because a new customer contacted me right after I prepared samples for the previous USARF commission - I introduced the colour scheme to the new customer and offered to reschedule his commission to 'NOW' which met with an instant acceptance. This way I painted two identical USARFs at tabbletop level then buffed one of them to lvl 4 'Chrome & Shiny' :)

'Go Go Nomads! Iguana', a special project for a USA located friend,
Image
Complete GALLERY, and a 360*VIDEO,

Some of my own Nomads lvl XD 'Whatever I felt like it'
Image
Image
Image
Image
I'm actually expanding collection to Vanilla.
Complete GALLERY,

And here's something I work on right now. Once again two commissions, one being lvl 3 'Fast & Furious' with some exceptions. The other one is lvl 5 'Witness Me!'.
Image
Image
Image

Once again I linked an incomming commission with a one that just recently hit the table. This way new customer saved about three months of waiting while awaiting projects were rescheduled by two days only. I'm very curious as how both of these turn out. Usually I can project a vision of complete commission before I even start to paint it, but this time I was overwhelmed by blue and just can;t think of the end result. Fortunatelly for me it won;t take long till I hit the finish line.

Love your painting level names...

But why is level 3 your "basic tabletop" level? :headscratch: Or do you consider level 3 your basic tabletop level for Infinity minis?

If it was me, my Level 1 would be basic 3 block colors and based. The old GW shop minimums.
Level 2 would be block colored, washed, 1-2 highlights that are probably drybrushed for speed. Suitable for mass armies.
Level 3 would be more layers to smooth out the transitions between shadows and highlights, intended for large models, characters for Level 2 armies, and probably my base for Infinity minis.
Level 4 would probably be fluorescent effects.
Level 5 would be glazing colors instead of layering, for Infinity centerpieces.
“I'm curious, son. When has 'This might be a trap' ever stopped you?”
“Stopped? Never. Slowed me down while I load the guns? Every time.”

I thought long and hard about painting levels and tried to compare them to what I was used to. After some time I've figured out that regardless of universal nomenclature, every single person has entirely different expectations from for example 'tabble top'. This led me to creation of my own six painting levels, matching my personal style, capabilities, speed and habits. I was always a speed painter, pragmatist and a man of strong passion. I just feel how things should look like and know how to provide it. I envy all the awesome painters out there, who's transitions are smooth, nmm looks great and painting skill is outstanding - but I just know myself and know my limitations. Knowing this I follow my guts when it comes to painting levels. I have my personal style and try to follow the 'rule of cool', seeking customers who appreciate it - as there are many differnt tastes throughout community. This leads us to lvl 3 'Fast & Furious'. This is my standard, starting level, which in my opinion provides a solid look from about 40-60cm (on the game board) and I am fully comfortable with providing such a paint job. There is always a difference between how miniatures from a variety of games behave under such a paint job. Infinity miniatures are very detailed with many facades of armour and great poses and that makes them compatible with my preferences. They work very well with natural shadows, washes, hard highlights. I love to paint Infinity :)

HERE you can find the summary of Painting Levels i use and what they usually provide.

Sorry if I overkilled with the answer. Just counldn't think of a better way to explain things, without a nice perspective set up first :)

All in all - I would be very grateful for any feedback, both on the painting levels, how you feel they transit onto the miniatures and how to improve.

No, that answered the question I was trying to ask (and not communicating clearly). Thanks!

In general, I think that you do a really good job explaining what each level is and what kind of models you'd be comfortable painting it on. Those Space Hulk termies surprise me as only being Level 2 (they'd be closer to my Level 4 or 5).

For a specific constructive criticism, your red OSL looks odd, I think it's because the red lights aren't bright enough. Unfortunately, I have no clue how to fix or improve it beyond that, as I haven't figured out how to paint OSL yet.

Thanks for feedback,

I get what you mean with red OSL. I struggle with this particular colour. I provide a very sattisfying Green OSL, rather decent orange and purple, acceptable blue and turquise and rather poor red :) Red is by itself a difficult colour, with each and every paint havind a specific pigmentation. These paints tend to get very grainy while airbrushing. I just haven't found a perfect colour to airbrush red OSL with yet. I probably will once opportunities to test appear on the road :)

Here's a quick and dirty but surprisingly effective way to do red glowy lights, as he mentions two messages up he uses VMC Orange Fluo for this, worth a test i guess :)
