I've seen this terrain before, and am again suitably gobsmacked! Leave away the skycrapers and it reminds me of Starcraft. City tables are great.

Oh, and equally important - I enjoy reading your blog and reports with ample pics. Is Combined Army that popular, or was it just by chance you ended up in those mirror matches?

There were a LOT of Combined players at the tournament. At least 6- probably 8 in total- out of about 27 players.

I don't know if it's an example of the meta in that city- or whether because the tournament was named: "The Return of the Combined Army." In previous Total Reactions the top player- who won them back to back- used a Combined Army (Vanilla) list. So perhaps it swayed a lot of players to bring Combined Army lists? The slew of new Morat releases probably had something to do with it as well.

It's all conjecture on my part.

I have to admit I was surprised to see how many alien players attended! In my home city, the meta seems fairly evenly split amongst the different factions.

Combined does have a reputation for being the most unpopular faction in Infinity but I don't know whether that's a fact... without peaking at Corvus Belli's sales data.

There was also a lot of Ariadna (6 I think, 3 of which were Caledonians) and a pretty even smattering of other forces, 3 PanO, 2 Yu Jing, 2 Haqqislam, 2 Nomads, 1 Aleph, 2 Tohaa. I'm planning on putting up a TO's AAR sometime soon, but I've been enjoying Derfeonidas' coverage!
