placing infiltrators

I've read somewhere, when you secretly place your infiltrators you need to make the infiltration roll, this will let your opponent know that he can expect an infiltrator; to counter this some people wrote that it's allowed to roll "a number of dice" not neccesary the amound of infiltrators to confuse your opponent.
Is it allowed to just roll, even if you don't have infiltrators or to roll more dice then you have infiltration models?

After almost 9 months playing infinity on a weekly base, our group can handle most situations, we enjoy the game quit a lot.
I now know JSA can win brutally, but also loose easily when things go wrong, a dense table is always in my favour.

IIRC the discussion in the official forum went in the direction that rolling without reason is cheating. If you have to make a roll this is public - your enemy can see it. There is nothing in the rules that allows to hide or obscure it.

Pretty sure you're not allowed to roll dice without a cause for the dice.

In the case of infiltration and hidden deployment, you would just roll a die. Your opponent would see the die and could make assumptions about pass/fail/etc.

For example: JSA has both Ninja and Oniwaban which can infiltrate. The Ninja infiltrate past 24" with a roll of 9 or less, while the Oniwaban pass on a 15 or less. If you rolled an 8, there is still the question of which model is infiltrating as well as where they infiltrated to.

I play JSA pretty regularly. Even when I fail Shinobu's Infiltration roll of 16, I can use her to perform admirably.

Without doubt or question intentionally misleading your opponent is cheating.

Doesn't matter if it's say adding additional non-valid for hidden deployment, making fake rolls for "infiltrating mines" or anything else that specifically doesn't require you to roll and disclose the results of that roll. I.E. ALL ROLLS IN THIS GAME.

Huge difference between using say Holoprojectors, TO: Hidden Deployment and other things that make an opponent to question what is real and just outright cheating. A player can come back from disadvantage caused by some skill/equipment tricks but the disadvantage caused by being cheated puts them in an untenable position.
