So I am pretty new to this game, only having started to play in April. I started out playing Haqqislam, and quite like them, yet here I am already having changed factions before I even really know the game. Why?

Its all Operation Icestorms fault. I tend to get all of the starter sets in every game I play eventually, so that I can use them to give new players intro games. Combine that with the terrain you get and I was always going to purchase Icestorm. At the same time, while I was enjoying my Haqqislam on the gaming table, I was frustrated with how my painting of them was going.

Then I decided to paint the Nomad starter, since some of the models work for QK, and I was super happy with how they turned out, using zenithal shading then a ton of purple airbrush glazes to produce a really nice purple colour. In that time, I had also noticed the large gap in model quality between older Infinity models and the newer ones. Having been burnt with the Naffatuns being one of my first purchases then almost immediately superseded with better minis, I decided to go looking for the faction I felt was the most future proof in terms of models.

I really like all of the various Cat models in Corregidor, and the Alguaciles and Tag options are also really sweet, so I decided to switch to Corregidor and my painting motivation has been going well ever since. So in this intro post, I will make a list of models by different categories - Painted, Owned, and Wanted (these are more near future wants - I'm sure I'll get most things eventually) - I will try and keep these updated. My intention will be to prioritise models going into my lists in that order.

So I have played a few games with lists largely made up of the models I have and the ones I can reasonably proxy from my Haqqislam. I have a tournament coming up on August 22nd though - 300 pt ITS with Spec Ops, scenarios are:

Supplies
Transmission Matrix
Seize the Antennas

So two point control missions with specialists and one area control mission that is a Hacker paradise/worst nightmare rolled into one.

As you can see, these lists are basically the same. I keep trying to play around with a list based around an Alguacile link team, but I have so much trouble finding a good Lieutenant in Corregidor. I think I am just so spoiled coming from Haqqislam, where they excellent cheap 0 SWC Lts in Ghulams and Hafza, but the 1 SWC cost on the Alguacile Lt is a real killer, especially since I normally struggle with SWC costs in Nomads - thing like Moran Masai costing 0.5 SWC and being our only infiltrating specialist option are a real killer.

This has meant I have focussed my Specops on doing something where he is going to save me on SWC, either by carrying a heavy weapo in a link, or being an uber Hacker, which I tested and it works very nicely.

I have come up with the following list as a bit different:

Any suggestions for improvement? Things like which models go in which combat groups is something I don't feel like I have a good handle on yet.

Personally, I'd choose a MSR instead of Spitfire for the SpecOp. It works better over long ranges, and you already have an automatic weapon in the fireteam (the HMG).

Hmm, its the same points too, will probably give it a go with both and see what I like better - thanks Errhile.

Well, keep in mind that in a Link, it is 3 shots from the MSR (DA ammo most of the time), with SpecOps BS of 13, plus range and link modes. Just what you need to outrange a Total Reaction REM and get rid of it.

In ARO, you set for MSR + HMG + Panzerfaust (Lupe Balboa) with all the trimmings. That's a lot.
And if you have to engage a target on sub-optimal ranges for the MSR (or team's HMG), you just switch to combi. Taking a MSR for the SpecOp doesn't mean he forgoes his Combirifle, after all.

Ooh, thats a great point, with the Combi getting +3 at 0-16 its almost like you get an X-Visor with the MSR.

I tried out that Alguacile link list with the MSR, and it worked a treat. the combination of the longish range Alguacile link, plus the Crazy Koalas and Jaguar Warriors really allow me to establish board control and get up the field quickly and put scenario pressure on. Just to be more patient with my Intruder HMG who is really the killiest model in the list, as his primary goal will be to help combat threats to that board control. The other thing I'm looking at trying out is switching the Stempler Zond for a Reaction Zond, and maybe trying to squeeze in a Corregidor Bandit, probably using the Icestorm Spektr as a proxy.

Anyone had much experience with the Bandits?

I also want to revisit the Wildcat list, making the Wildcats a more aggressive link team - probably without the HRL, and try and get some Morans in there.

Also had a bunch of models arrive and have done a heap of painting, so have updated my list in the OP.

From my experience, Bandits are OK.
Yes, I find them a bit expensive, especially the more interesting variants (like Hacker or any variant with Deployables). The light shotgun is a little shy on firepower. I have yet to use their close combat abilities (high CC, MArts L2, Scavenger). The WIP is substandard (lowest on Corregidor, IIRC), which hurts - especially on Hacker.
Plus, being Irregular doesn't really help him.

A single Bandit is a good idea, IMO. You get all the advantages of a Camo Infiltrator, and you are going to find a job for that single Irregular Order somehow. Two could do, especially if you have them in separate (and rather large) combat groups. Three is too much in my eyes.


As for the Wildcats - apart from the HRL, the other long-ranged weapon they have access to is the Spitfire. Now I used the Spitfire a lot back in 2ed, but in 3ed, he's on the table only to proxy for a shotgunner: in both all of my sectorials there are units that have access to HRLs and Spitfires (Wildcats, sekban and Muyibs), and for me, HRL is clearly superior. Longer range, more oomph, kills things with fire. Sure, that's Burst 3 in a Link, agaisnt Spitfire's Burst 5 in a Link, but over long range the range modifiers make up for that for me.
And if the target is too close for HRL, you can always use the team's rifles (Wildcat HRL carries an Assault Pistol, too).

If you add to that the 4 points the Spitfire is more expensive by, it usually means I can see no sense in taking one if I can have a HRL in the Link in question.

The HRL is additional SWC as well, which I've been short on. That might have been early on when I was using the Iguana due to model shortage though.

Hadn't noticed the Assault Pistol - need to read up more on that, haven't had a model with one that I'd noticed before. I started out with both HRL and Spitfire, and kept finding the link too far forward too quickly to get much out of the HRL.

Had a look - ooh those two weapons fit together nicely - still gets 5 dice at close, then the HRL takes over.

Need to do some more mucking about.

I've been enjoying playing with these lists.

Have also updated my OP to reflect painting progress and more purchases - got almost everything for Corregidor now.

So I went to my first tournament over the weekend, taking the two lists in the post above this one.

Thankfully we had an uneventful drive, as the tournament was about 3 hours drive right through Brisbane.

We had a turnout of 14 players, which is pretty strong from what I've seen.

My first game was on Supplies, against a Pan O player packing Neoterra.

He won the roll and took deployment, and decided to play across the table sideways, which I had never encountered before and wasn;t sure it was legit or not. The TO was busy with something else at the time though so I just ran with it,. It did make for an awkward game though as the board was 6x4' with a 2' area for storing bags etc, which made it very awkward to play on and work out LOS and such.

My opponent deployed very cagily in terms of covering potential drop zones, but it did also put a lot of his troops into nice conga lines I was hoping to take advantage of. I dithered quite a lot trying to work out all the lines of fire in my first turn, but eventually came up witha solid plan. I was able to remove some models to open up a spot to drop my boarding shotgun in on the left flank, right around the corner from a 5 model conga line. Unfortunately, despite having an EVO repeater and supportware making my drop roll an 18, I still failed it and ended up with my Boarding Shotgun Hellcat deploying into my deployment zone. This was a pretty big deal as it would have given me strong control of two of the objectives.

I still had the central and left objectives covered very well to prevent them being taken, and I tried to utilise some of my other drop troops to cover the other one.

My opponents turn he managed to get a hold of that right side objective and bring it most of the way back to his deployment zone, which was going to be difficult to get back.

My turn 2 was spent trying to claw that one back, and I succeeded, but was not able to take it out of the danger zone, so I covered it as best I could. I think I blew too many orders on that and not enough on getting closer to the other two objectives.

Op turn, he blasted through my defence of that objective and took it back.

In my turn, I was under the pump as our time was nearly up. I still had a fair few orders left for my link team, so I needed to drive at oen of the objectives and grab it, while taking otu the guy holding the objective on the other side. I went for the middle one as it appeared closer, but in the end because it was on a top floor of a two level building it was further away, should gone for the left hand side one. In the end I got to the objective with only one order left and failed the WIP roll, though I did manage to take out the guy with the other one.

On my opponents final turn, despite suffering loss of LT and retreat, he managed to use enough command tokens to get to the LHS objective and take it for the win.

I probably got too hesitant on the left hand side of the board after my boarding shotgun drop fell through, which cost me the game. My opponent played the scenario a lot better than I did.

Game 2 was Transmission Matrix, and I felt I had built a very strong list for this scenario, with a Spec Ops uber hacker and a strong aggressive link team to take the centre. My opponent was running ALEPH, and with a lot of hackable models in his list he was at a disadvantage.

I was pretty dominant in this game, with my TRHMG and Intruder doing a lot of attrition while my link moved in to contest the central objective.

In the end, there was an amusing side game going on where I couldn't afford to kill Achilles as it would put my opponent in retreat and end the game before I could grab all of the available points, so I was trying to keep away from him while maintaining a hold on most of the areas.

My final game was Seize the Antennae against a Hassassin Bahrain list, which I felt very comfortable with because I knew what my opponents stuff did.

I felt a lot of empathy for Wile E Coyote in this game, as it seemed like everything I tried to do the dice denied me.

I ended up going first, and picking what was probably the worst side in hindsight, due to the positioning of the central objective, which my opponent could see but I couldn't.

My first turn was again spent primarily trying to wreak hovoc with AD troops. This time my opponent had not covered the board very well with AROs, as he did not have many troops in his deployment zone, and so with minimal effort I was able to clear a spot for my Boarding Shotgun, ina spot where he would have been able to turn a corner and shoot the 4 man Muyib link at close range with a Boarding Shotgun. Unfortunately, again for me the drop failed on 18 again, and scattered out of bounds and therefore deployed in my deployment zone.

I then tried to snipe out one model from the link to run off 6th sense and allow my Spitfire to mow them down from behind, but my opponent managed to dodge out fo the way. This meant my Spitfire would be contested on its attack from the rear, and would have to engage two models at once. This meant it was basically the same dice (2 dice each, same BS and range band bonus), with the crucial difference that I had cover and his guys did not. Unfortunately, both Muyibs critted the Hellcat and he went down ignominiously.

After failing to secure the back area of the battlefield, the rest of the game was spent trying to dislodge the Farzan from the central objective, but his impregnable armour kept him safe, which meant I couldn't grab that objective.

To add insult to injury, in my final turn I burned a bunch of orders trying to at least claim my closest objective to no avail, and my opponent was able to waltz his Muyibs through my entire army to claim it with his final order. This allowed my opponent to bunnyhop my friend I had travelled up with in the rankings - doh!

All in all I had a great time. I felt Lady Luck was a bit against me in the day, but these things happen. I was happy with my rules knowledge, did not feel outmatched tactics wise, and after the first round time was not a problem. I felt my lists were strong, though Corregidors lack of camo infinltrating specialists was felt a bit - the terrain was a lot more vertical than I was used to, which did not favour my AD based attack.

Nothing against it RAW and that is how the gents at QNK often play especially during normal club meets.

I agree is SOOOO annoying on the 6' by 4' tables.

Your 1st opponent is a QNK local as was your 3rd both are good players without question. Not sure who you faced in the 2nd round though maybe Mike but probably the other ALPEH player. Because if it was Mike you would have had a much harder time.

I think you did really well given you weren't used to the changes in META variation in terrain, height, density and what not.

FYI If I hold another event at Blind Pig Gaming Club this year except similar mixed density of terrain and height as thats what is the norm in Brisbane and Caboolture.

Yeah 2nd game was Mike, it was a really bad matchup for him with the scenario and table though, and he only had the one list he chucked together for bye busting duties vs my list heavily geared toward this exact scenario. I have no illusions it would normally go that well for me.

Terrain density was probably a bit lighter than what we've been using, but the pieces were a lot bigger and especially a lot taller.

I have been to Blind Pig a fair bit and seen the size of a lot of the terrain there (not Inifinity but u can't imagine those folk wouldn't do some nice stuff), would be a fun event.

I've already bought a bit into Acontecimento and ISS since the event lol, I gots the fever!

I'm not going to lie, I threw together what is below for shiggles and realised to my surprise I am still 50 points short - what would you add?
