ITS4 Frontline Scenario

Military Order won the Lieutenant roll-off and chose Initiative
Shasvastii chose for the Military Orders to deploy first on the side with the city park.

Photos first, later comments. Is this photo too big or too small?

Image

Indigo SpecOps with 3 Order Sergeants with Combis made up a link team and deployed on their left hand side, right near the door in to the 'Double-L' building.
Order Sergeant TO Sniper deployed with hidden deployment on top of one of the apartment blocks on their far side of central park.
Order Sergeant MSV2 Spitfire deployed in the central park, using a wide tree trunk for cover.
Knight Hospitaller Doctor moved and hid behind the central apartment block.
His Palbot hid near the link team.
Machinist Engineer hid behind the common access computer terminal, not far from the link team.
His Palbot went behind the Hospitaller.
Knight of the Holy Sepulchre Spitfire turned on his two holograms (blue), making it impossible to tell him from the two 'hims' next to him and moved forward from the Hospitaller.
Santiago Lt was held in reserve, but ended up deploying at the end of the container between the central apartment buildings and the 'Double-L' building.

10/11 orders a the start, including the Lieutenant order until the hidden deployment unit was revealed.

The general plan of the MO was to deploy high and win through attrition.

Image

Seed-Soldier Combi and Seed-Soldier Grenadier deployed with Aswuang Lieutenant as a camo token on the left hand side of the field. Trying to stay in cover from potential AD or infiltrating snipers.
Corax Combi and the Sphinx stayed together, and near the other Seeds. The Sphinx stayed there with the Aswuang to offer protection while the Seeds were trying to hatch.
Corax's Slave Drones were immobile until Corax hatched, but then they were ready to raise an alert.
Cadmus BS was held back until turn 3.
Shrouded Minelayer went up the central apartment block after leaving a camo'ed mine at it's base. Itwas unaware of the hidden deployment by the Order Sergeant hiding there as well with TO Camo.
Q-Drone HMG was placed in a position where it could cover any advance by the enemy towards the main deployment of the Shasvastii force, and it could keep an eye out for any AD.
Speculo Killer was held in reserve, and after the Knight of Santiago was deployed, it was deployed in the far left flank, trying to avoid enemies.

So 9/10 orders at the start including the Lieutenant order until the Cadmus dropped in. Since the Sphinx was deployed as a normal camo marker with the Seeds, his order was put in the pool.

The general Shasvastii plan was to wait till the last turn, then run for the major points.

Image

The purple highlights here are the EI's general-use REMs borrowed by the Shasvastii. Two Slave-Drones and a Q-Drone. The rest are all covered by camo tokens, which are hard to spot, as is their purpose.

Image
With delayed deployment, the Santiago swooped in and took front position on the inner left of the MO battlefield.

Image

Last to deploy was the sneaky Speculo. Looking like a famous bounty-hunter (who will remain unnamed) in yellow, the MO took little notice of it. In reality this Speculo would not need to do much to place some hefty points value in this 'Frontline' band.

Military Orders decided to wade in first and take the high ground - Turn 1.1

Image

After shaking hands and wishing the opponent all the worst, we set off.
MO took initiative and Sepulchre knight took on the advance moving until he was flush with the central square building, then opened  the door, in case retreat in to cover was needed (See 1 & 2). This building had internal walls so there was no fear of shooting through the doors to the other side.
On the far left of the table, MO progressed to move the link team up to the top of the two story 'Double-L' building (See 3 & 4).
It took a few orders (short move skill to open a door; short move skill to go up one level on the anti-grav elevator (2 PAX max). One full order to go up two levels at once.

Image

Finally they came out of the top Anti-grav-lift-hatch, next to the lift controller and took cover on the roof top. Foxtel antenna array on the far left of the roof (from their entry) was still operational, but had no impact on their mission.

Image

They took a moment to take in the strategic view of the enemy deployment zone form this angle. What was that purple patch (with bright orange base)? Something small that seems to align with an enemy red-dot on the HUD radar! Link leader with Combi took a shot but it was very far away... All shots went where they shouldn't.

Image

"Permission to engage?" from the Indigo Spec Ops. "Light'em up!" from the Kight of Santiago/Lieutenant and the team leadership was handed to the Spec Ops. While Indigo takes careful concentrated aim, knowing that his buddies would be alerting him in case of danger, he let rip with his HMG and shot 5 shots in to a seeming immobile small Slave-Drone. Hit = powered down; hit =  destroyed; hit = vaporised. (See 1)

Next, Santiago advanced, knowing that his link team on his left would cover any surprises. Not too far through. Those Shasvastii are sneaking slimes! So he puts down a suppression fire corridor to defend his link team and to stop any surprises from coming around the corner (See 2).

Lastly, and in order to stay in touch, Hospitaller moved forwards the Sepulchre (See 3); and his Palbot did as well, towards the rear door of the 'Double-L' building and remain near the Santiago (See 4).

Shasvastii's answer is to get rid of the link team - Turn 1.2

Image

It's hard to really understand the Shasvastii and their alien approach to battle strategy. But it seemed to be effective. The MO link team was awkwardly positioned for the continued battle plan. So the Q-Drone was engaged to lessen the thread and too repay the ugly humans for the destruction of his spawn, the Slave-Drone. It moved carefully forwards and once it was ready it crept around the corner until it could spot the first team member (See 1).

4 HMG shots at the Order Specialist who returned with 2 combi shots at what looked like a mirage (mimetism). The combi was over-powered by the cybernetically embedded HMG but only one shot ricocheted off the shoulder-pads of the MO unit. He promptly fell flat on his face in shock (he was straight out of military school, and a battle against the shifty Shasvastii that could not be seen was not as glorious as he thought it was going to be) (See 2).

Was it joy or disappointment that made the Q-Drone move on to the next two targets and shoot both at once? In return from his 4 shots, the link team was responding with 2 combi shots and 2 HMG shots. One wound penetrated the next Order Sergeant with the combi, but another shot bounced off the Indigo Spec Ops. Both went down and out of sight. Satellite imaging told the Q-Drone that only one had lost consciousness (See 3).

To complete the turn, the Q-Drone moved forward and placed a couple of mines to block further potential advancement by the Link team, Santiago and Sepulchre (See 4).

Image

Unfortunately for the Q-Drone, the order pool went dry before he could take on the Order Sergeant with the MSV2 hiding in Central park behind a tree. But that could wait... Q-Drones are known for their patience.

Military Orders - Regaining and cementing high ground - Turn 2.1

Image

Total of 9 orders now, including Lieutenant's order.

PanO's main concern now was the Q-Drone, as all else was still in hiding. So Sepulchre and images moved around the corner, staggered so the Q-Drone had 3 images to chose from. Q-Drone decided to shoot  1:1 - 1:1 - 2:1, while one of the 3 images shoot back with 4:1. Q-Drone was hit thrice and wounded twice, enough damage to scatter components over the tarmac without potential for recovery (See 1).

Next, moving the Hospitaller forward, also allowed the Palbot to move, which eventually made it to the wounded Order Specialist on the roof of the 'Double-L' building. Attempting a heal resulted in groans and a replication of similar results all over the universe by PanO Doctors. The wounded trouper died as an artery was wrongfully severed. Oops (See 2 & 3)

A couple of avenues were open for advancement, but blocked by several mines. So the Order Sergeant with the MSV2 goggles moves up to the next tree, ready for advancement in the next turn (See 3).

Image

The link team moves further in to the enemy territory, getting a better angle across the board. But moving further would see them well in to the Shasvastii deployment zone, and that was against orders.

Image

Santiago moved forward as well, hugging the building in the middle to ensure it would not get hit by the potential mine (top left quarter of camo token just visible above building at the bottom of the picture).

Shasvastii - Hatching and advancing - Turn 2.2

Image

"Pop" - "Pop" - "Pop" as the Seeds hatch from their gooey eggs. Where there were two camo tokens before there are now 2 Seed soldiers and 1 Corax Spec Ops, as well as still two camo tokens. The MO satellite-fed HUD displays are in confusion until the resolution stabilises and the battle goes on.

The Spec-Ops Seed takes control and binds the other two Seeds in to a linked team.

The Camo token next to the Corax Spec Ops blinks and flashes and suddenly is even harder to see (Camo is re-camoing to TO Camo).

What's that in the bushes? Speculo/Bounty Hunter steps out from behind the Yu Jing statue and while the MO unit is baffled by the sight of the man in a long coat, he gets shot to death by the combi of the Speculo (no wonder they call it-) Killer. The last thing the MSV2 goggle show to the MO unit is a female humanoid form with a glowing whip in her left hand, grinning at him (See 1).
The Speculo moves on to take a firm grasp of the 'Frontline' battlefields slice. If only that Hospitaller were gone.

Time to do some house cleaning in response to the Speculo's silent request. A suspect shape moves across the roof of the central apartment complex. It then seems to grow from ground hugging creature to a bi-pedal shape, but still hard to see. Instinctive reaction by the Hospitaller on the ground below, who caught movement in the corner of his eye, is to leap aside of any potential attack (See 2).
But his jump is interrupted as he get's hit twice by a combi rifle's bullets, one of which penetrates his armour and wounds him (See 3)
Having revealed itself, the Shrouded is now exposed and the Indigo Spec Ops from across the board takes aim and launches 2 HMG bullets in it's direction, but he misses. A smile creeps over the Shrouded's face, unit he is hit in the back by a bullet from a pistol, operated by a TO Camo Order Specialist with Sniper rifle. Of course they were too close together for an effective use of the rifle, but the pistol did it's job and the Shrouded falls down unconscious (See 4).

Image

The TO Camo token moves at alarming speed to the central apartment block and scans around the corner. Further down the battlefield, the ever-aware Hospitaller is again seeing things in his peripheral vision and again he decides to jump away out of instinct. This time he is wounded twice by the Spitfire of the Sphinx TAG as it materialises out of thin air at the corner of the building, and the Hospitaller is toast.

Military Orders - Agressive advancement - Turn 3.1

Image

There is lots to do, but very little time to do it in. First off, clear some mines. The Indigo Spec Ops scouts out the area where the HUD shows a small blip. It seems to be a mine as he discovers? "Try shooting it." indicates a team member. And sure enough, once it is shot, all that is left of the broken debris of a mine (See 1).

Now Santiago has room to move. But first, the TO Sniper takes his pistol out again, but only wounds the unconscious Shrouded once and it turns in to a Spawn Embryo. At last it won't 'automedkit' itself back to life (See 2).

The Santiago moved forward and peaks around the corner, but another mine explodes in his face. However the distance was well judged on his part and the mine exploded in to thin air (See 3).

Next Santiago decides to cut the battlefield in half and lays down a suppression fire corridor to cut off the Seed team from advancing up the battlefield. (See 4).

Image

Next the Sepulchre is being sneaky. First he re-activates his holo-projector, then he steps out in to full view of the Seed soldier. But just before the mine is triggered, the Shasvastii smell cheese. The camo token, which is so obviously a mine, does not explode, it seems to wait. And true enough, after initial expectations, the Sepulcrhre and two more mirror images step from cover again and this time the mine does explode. The images vanish - "vamoosh" - but the one left standing does not take a wound from the mine, while it is still partially behind cover.

Image

As the Sepulchre is already partially exposed he returns fire at the Seed who is trying to launch a grenade at him, and also takes one shot at the Slave Drone in the corner. He misses the Slave, but manages to hit the Seed before it lobs a grenade in his general direction. Seed does down, revealing another Seed behind it.

Image

Next the Sepulchre shoots again. This time he splits his shots at the newly revealed Seed x 1, the Aswuang that is shooting back x 2, and one more at the Slave Drone x 1. Then he ducks around the corner. Just in time as the shot from the Aswuang's glue gun just misses him. Sepulchre in turn hits two, the Slave and Aswuang, but only once. The Slave fails to dodge and is powered down. The Seed manages to dodge behind the crates and Aswuang is hit, but is saved by his reflexes and armour. He also dodges out of sight.

Image

The Sepulchre re-activates his holo-projector behind cover. He is breathing hard, adrenaline pumping. What will the Sphinx do to him next?

Shasvastii - A final surprise before running for the lines - Turn 3.2

Image

So, now to grab the points. First bring the last points to the table. Cadmus Seed falls down unerringly near the rear of the MO link team and to the rear of the Santiago, but out of line of fire from all (See 1).

Next the Cadmus is forced to hatch quickly and it does so on demand (See 2).

Now the Cadmus is sneaking up to the rear of the Santiago and is surprised when the Santiago turns to shoot without hesitation, breaking his suppressive fire corridor. Does he have 360 degree vision or something? Bang, Cadmus goes down unconscious, Santiago grins (See 3).
But the Cadmus is a Sasvastii after all, and if you don't clean up your mess after killing Shasvastii, you're not winning the battle.

As a final couple of moves, the Corax Spec Ops moves over to the powered-down Slave Drone and tries to fix it. In the footsteps of the PanO Doctor, the Corax' engineering skills only seem to break it down to smaller components (failed the one and only attempt by both teams to perform a classified objective) (See 4).

Finally the Aswuang also moves forward, while staying out of the line of fire of the Santiago.

The End

Final Results: Shasvastii 7, Military Orders 4
