QBMO -QR-Code Based Mission Objectives

Greetings everybody!

Recently I have been toying around with QR-Codes from my wedding invitations. And at some point it struck me...

why not include QR-Codes in our beloved game?

There are a few benefits from using QR-Codes:

- IT IS SCIFI! Seriously... how cool is using your smartphone, not just to dabble and read your armylists, but to actually bond the net and your board closer together?
- Using QR-Codes a game master could join the struggle for the mission objectives, since the codes are easily mixed up.
- did I mention it is scifi?
- you can somewhat create decision based trees of evens
- you can imply the qr-codes in your terrain )and that pretty easily)
- secrecy, mission objectives or nasty tricks are not drawn from a card deck or rolled on a chart...

So I started off with something pretty simple. Crates.
A friend and I thought of a few random events that might come into play when a model searches a crate on the battlefield. The QR-Codes are printed on a sticker and glued under the crate (Prototypes are in progress) and when a model discoveres its content, switch it over, scan the code and see what happens.

Please keep in mind that this all is pretty basic right now, but I would love to hear your input.

here is my QR-Code Database:

Cool idea, but I fear checking a QR-code is more game-interruption than checking a table.
If it can be easily replaced by a simpler tool I think I'm not a big fan. Given - it has a certain scifi-gizmo-flair.

Neat idea, but what about those who don't own a smartphone?

@scorch: thanks ^^

@CoveredInFish: well... it is a try and probably abit of personal taste there. But I will report if it i greatly interrupting the game...

@Mistake Not: I guess they have to use their tablets? Seriously... I have no idea. If they like the rules for the different crate types, they can make a chart. Or are you suggestion, I provide a chart myself? I guess I could do that for the crates. But for more complex concepts, I would have to think about something else...

So: Ready for testing:

Ordinary Crates by day...

...crazy QR-Crates by night!
