The Data Sphere Manifesto

I’ve been asked by some new members what is the purpose of this forum? Dose it even have a purpose? Are we a just bunch of cranky nomads?

I decline to answer that last question. The answer to the other two is yes we have a purpose in creating this forum and you can read it in our manifesto.

The Data Sphere Manifesto

We had 3 primary goals in creating this forum:

1) Help the Infinity community to find terrain & encourage terrain makers to cater to the Infinity community. We as Infinity players are in need of large quantities of cool looking terrain. We have created a space where players in need of terrain and terrain makers looking for customers can co-habituate.

2) To encourage the painting of Infinity miniatures. An ITS is 100% better for all participants when all the models are painted. We are painfully aware that the scale and detail of the Corvus Belli miniatures makes them more difficult to paint than the heroic scale figures most people are used too. We will support the painting of Infinity miniatures through painting tutorials by experts and eventually painting contests.

3) Get more retailers to stock Infinity. Every person should have easy access to Infinity no matter where they may live. This is not the case today. This goal requires a huge thriving independent Infinity community; one which will convince retailers that Infinity is simply too popular to ignore. We pledge our support to all the Infinity missionaries around the world striving to increase the popularity of our beloved game through setting up demo games, encouraging people to try it and talking retailers into selling it . Our Community forum was designed as a space for these missionaries to trade tips and strategies and; for the Infinity community at large to offer them the moral support the so richly deserve.

That's more or less it, for me it looked like this:

- have a forum where we can discuss Infinity-related terrain and minis without restrictions to official partners and with no fear of getting info we've worked to compose deleted,
- advertise various terrain/mini makers, it's nice to have them all in one place,
- gather SF/cyberpunk/hitech/whatever inspiration, maybe interest some SF/cyberpunk fans in Infinity while we get a lot more sources from them
- have a place to trade minis that isn't ebay :v:

In regards to item #3, I've been posting pages out of Game Trade Magazine in the distributors section of the Infinity forum. Since many FLGS here in the states use Alliance, would it be helpful to copy the posts here? The pricing may not be accurate, buy the item numbers are. Would it also be helpful to post the articles Gutier wrote for GTM?

Posting them in the community forum could help a lot of Americans. Please do.

Hells yes.

You have no idea the vacancy of goals, objectives, or vision I encounter in the engineering world. So when I see a policy statement or an idea to rally behind, I get geeked.

These ideals are sweet and I have to say it's well represented thus far.

Out of interest - does that happen often on the official forums? I have only recently returned there.

It does happen when you mention by name terrain makers that are not offical partners with Corvus Belli. Or post links to them. Corvus Belli has official partnerships where companies pay them to acquire the Infinity license.

Enforcement is a bit hit and miss. You can see people offering or linking to painting services in signatures, or saying paintjob was a comission... but lately people just self restrain, or go stealth, with the main content of threads. The weeks just after the rules were new, you could "see" some threads disappear or get locked.

For the lazy and for reference, the 4th Dec post says:
It's forbidden to use our forum as a commerce/advertising platform. The only ones who can sell/advertise in our forums are the official Infinity stores and distributors.

It's forbidden to advertise non Infinity official products in ths forum. The only ones who can advertise their products are our official Partners (MicroArts Studio, BattleFoam and BlueTable Painting).
Read the rest of the locked thread yourself.
