Server Failure

Hey everyone,

I'd like to apologise for the recent loss of data caused by the recent server failure. Since this has occurred, Data Sphere has been moved from an unmanaged VPS over to a managed VPS, thus taking server management away from a one man crew in his spare time to a 24/7 dedicated team. Not to mention we get backups made 4 times a day now.

Here's toasting to a more secure server environment from here on out. :ubergeek:

Yes but we are going to have to look into donations to help maintain this site in the future.

Managed server seems overkill... for the traffic you get, have you considered simply going to a basic Linode with the Backup service?

I've run much more intensive applications off of a Linode 1GB (starting back when it was a Linode 384), and with the automated backup system it's still under $30/month.

My offer to host the site in return for a small ad in the footer is still open.

Managed VPS does seem a bit heavy duty! Speaking for myself, I would be happy to donate, but only if I felt the expenditure was warranted.

He also hosts other stuff, like my personal business website. :)

What would warrant the expenditure for you? What would you need to get from Data Sphere?

What would warrant it? Not a forum site, until it hits the size of certain other gaming ones that is!

We've mainly deployed VPS for dedicated application, SAAS or remote desktop type environments. Something where you need the high availability, bandwidth and capability as matter of necessity to the success of the system. If you see what I mean? :)

A weekly, hour long Podcast of just Arachas trying to fill time and talk about Infinity and site news. :P

Or; Arachas Reads Forum Posts

Would you guys even watch a video like that?

Although I have to admit I catch myself watching Matthew's sit and talk videos more often than not... (MiniWarGaming)

David tells me Data Sphere has gone through 2 GB in traffic since it's back up. That's pretty impressive. The forum is getting more and more active!
