I don't know why it happened, but using my Aol email resulted in no confirmation email being sent. The minute I made an account with my Gmail, I had no issue. Its not a huge deal, its more a weird annoyance.

I wasn't aware people still used AOL... I suspect this issue will not be a regular occurrence.

Normally I'd assume that but I also tried to contact the boards using my aol email as the address for reply and that didn't seem to get through either as I received no response. I don't know maybe Aol just eats everything from this board and the official Infinity forum, I just figured it might be some kind of problem on this end. Like I said though, it doesn't matter too much since I finally got it working.
