Event section/utility?

So one of the things that kind of gets on my nerves on the international forums is that major event announcements get easily lost in the noise of the forums unless people go digging for them.

While these forums are small, this isn't a problem, but if they get larger, there can be a decent number of threads about events.

We have Genghis Con happening up in Denver and of course GenCon. Crushar and I don't post up event announcements of our local ABQ events, because we can handle it with texts and emails.

I'd like to post up announcements on GenCon. I'm also wondering if there is any better way to label these or manage these for the future.

We can post them in the News section? It's not like there's much traffic there and we're not official, so we're not limited to official Infinity info :)

Not a bad idea, but they can still become lost after 40 different topics.

I don't think so, news section tends to move very slowly.

I'd say Community section sounds right for these...

News does tend to move a bit more slowly. What we could do is when an event thread pops up one of the mods stickys it. After the event is over we just unsticky it. If all the Admin and mods know this is how its done one of us is bound to see it the first day it pops up and sticky it. Likewise for after the event has taken place.
That way it is where it should be until the event is over. What do you think bout that?

Stickey sounds like a great idea, or at least workable. Maybe do the event date with a different color so it stands out too.

Thats a good idea. Make it easier to see at a glance.

Guys, you know that we have announcements? Just switch it on for a few days and it gets a separate part in the section.

Here is a test.

[I did that but I don't see a change.]

Yep. And remember that you can sticky a thread for X days, so you can just temporarily stick an event thread and forget about it. Everyone happy.

VVV: I think we're missing an "execution" emote :jihad:

So events in the community section then? Mods sticky it as an announcement till it's over?

That's the plan. Also use a different color for the event date so it sticks out.
