Hi all.

I recently bought a bunch of stuff from ZenTerrain and try to protocol my experiences with it.

First kit I assemble is 50% done, my experiences so far are here: CiF does infiNity: Watchtower and Military Fence from ZEN TERRAIN

Stay tuned for Part2 - probably tomorrow.

Unrelated to the product, but about the things you used on it: I see USN Light Ghost Grey xx.615 there, per any chance, do you have the Grey xx.601 primer too? If so, which one is darker? A picture with dry areas of both would be even better. Thanks.

The ..601 primer is defintly lighter, a good notch towards white. I see that I make a color sample soon.

EDIT: ah, managed it quicker than I feared.

@MobOfBlondes Hope that helps.

I like you're posts - will do you any painting tutorials. I love what you did with the Tungunska bases and I'd love to know how you went about getting them done.

thanks. I possibly will share more of my doing, but calling that a tutorial? i dont know. Im a total newb.

As for the tunguskan bases. I primed grey, added lights in white and blueish white and washed with a brownish dark grey. after that i painted details with a brush and put some lights on top with the airbrush again. Varnish, black oil wash. Done.
I cant go into more detail since I havent documented it and was experimenting until I was happy. Learning with everything I try ...

Don't matter if you're a 'newb' they look great and thanks for the input. Your paint job on the bases is really different compaired to the stock image they have posted and I do like the lighter tone of colour you've picked.

So, the next item is finished - the military outpost. Nice set and a bit more detailed and complex than the watchtower. Read more here.

CiF thank you for your in depth reviews.
As for the radar dish assembly it's a misprint from my part - sorry for that - also I don't know if it's obvious but all the instructions are readily available on the store website - when you go into the detailed section of a product and scroll down there are links to pdf files.

Hope this helps in the future in case of missing instructions.

You're welcome.

Thanks for the good work, fast shipping and inspired designs :)

Good to know with the instructions. It was no biggie since the pictures helped a lot.

It all looks great painted. I'm having some trouble getting spraypaint on mine. Could you tell me what you did to prepare the MDF?

Edit - I'm an idiot. Normal miniature primer works great. Must be the components in the colour primer I wanted to use on these.

I had success with regular primer - the Vallejo polyurethane one - but I improved coverage and finish by using a shellac based sealer. It was not necessary but beneficial - like I experienced with every MDF product so far.

I use Chestnut sanding sealer (infos here, scroll down for shellac, german shop here) and it is a great product and easy to work with. Brush on, let dry and optionally sand a little bit. Clean the brush with white spirits. With roughly 20€ per 500ml its not exactly cheap, but I used 2/3 of a bottle for a 4x6 table of street tiles and 4-5 medium sized buildings.

Voila super smooth surface and absolutely no blooming (of burned MDF, first layer of primer often gets a bit yellowish and i assume this is the reason) or swelling of fibers.

Oh, that is very cool! I must investigate some sealant for my growing collection of MDF stuff.
