Oreet Finally Starts a Table

So after playing Infinity for about a year and a half, I now live in a space that has the room to set up a table and terrain. So I've been buying up some HDF terrain, and slowly working through that. These pieces will be chronicled in this thread as well.

Yesterday, a friend came over, and we built the actual table:

Image

The table is 8' long by 4' wide by 32" tall. The table will be for Infinity, Deep wars, my roleplay group, board games, and any other gaming needs. The table is made up of 1 sheet of 8'x4' furniture-grade pine plywood at 23/32" thick. The legs, and table frame are made of 2 by 4 whitewood studs.

This morning I sanded everything, and I've applied 2 coats of a nice dark grey paint:

Sweet! You can have two games going on simultaneously!

Awesome!! This is great so far! If you want some added modularity to the table you can try this.

I made a table just like yours. I made a lip going around the top of the table like in the pics below.
Image

This allowed me to make 4 pieces. All 4X2. They could fit on top of the table and the lip holds them in place. I made the wood frame like an I beam. Then I glue pink isulation foam in on both side. One side a made urban the other side a made dirty & grass. This allowed me to flip them over and get two table tops for the space of one. Look at the pics below.
Closeup of the I beam core
Image

Pic of how it slides in place on the surface with the lip holding it in place. You can see that the bottom side never touches the surface because the edges are about an inch higher. So no damage to it.
Image

The urban side- I bought wallpaper. glued it on and painted it.
Image

Dirt & grass- sand glued down and painted. Static grass glued on.
Image

It is extra work but you will use it over and over again. & it makes having 2 games going on at once a snap. Happy building.

Great table Oreet. The only thing I would add are cart wheels so you can move it around easily.

So what's an Infinity table without terrain?

Here is a wide shot of all of the buildings that I have. Obviously, the table could use a little more coverage, but my next post will show off a lot of scatter terrain I've got.

Image

In this shot we have:
Warmill's Happy Noodle, Body Chop Shop, Wastestation, and Surgery Shack
MAS's Objective Room
Shark-Mounted Laser's 2-story apartment building, garage, and small 1-story apartment
Bandua's large building
Underground Laser's BBQ Lizard Stall x 2, Large computer server, and air conditioner units
Warsenal's Bus Stops

Here is a close-up of the BBQ Lizard stalls:

Bandua building (sort of sloppy paint job :( )

Scatter Terrain:

Construction Barriers:

Police Barriers:

(I still have about 20 more barriers to paint)

Soda Machines (notice the Mt. Dew and Pepsi logos):

Vending Machines:

Medium Crates:

Soda Machines, Large Crates, and Small Crates:

All of the scatter terrain in this post were cast in resin by a friend. He was selling this a while back, but grew to be too much trouble to keep casting. The ones I have are some of the mis-casts. Some have bubbles, or extra resin I had to cut off, or some other imperfection.

Oreet, The miscasts could readily be modeled to indicate damage and/or wear and tear, I would think. I like that surgery shack.

Athanadros, you win the over-engineering of the year award :) My poor table is simple in comparison. It is however, somewhat portable, albeit heavy. The sight of those gray gothic ruins though...

A lip around the table is a good idea, since it allow you to readily butt up against it terrain pieces so that you do not have clear lines running down a narrow strip on the table edges. The lip makes it harder to knock off terrain, and keeps dice from rolling onto the floor. It is a good idea.

Maybe you want some of those anti-fatigue mats to cover the concrete floor around the table. Drops happen. Plus standing on concrete for extended periods of time is hell on the knees. For me anyway.

Nice work though. a 4x8 table is great for gaming if you have the space. If nothing else it gives nice side boards .

I plan on getting some of those foam floor tiles with the jigsaw pattern edges for the floor.

Sounds like a good idea don't forget a comfy chair for down there too.

I'm going to bring home a few old rolling desk chairs from work. Since I'll be running board games and my RPG down there as well, we definitely need at least 6 comfy chairs down there.

As a practical matter, I note some indications that the basement has flooded in the past-- water stains along the bottom of the walls. I hope that you've addressed that problem.

If you're going to torture people with comfy chairs, Spanish Inquisition style, you'll need some soft cushions too. :)

We are addressing the water issue as well. We are having the land around the house "graded" so water flows away from house. I am also going to paint on a new coat of drylok.

Sounds good. I like the extreme version of drylok myself. Stinks though, so fans are a must while applying it. And clean gutters, always keep 'em clean. I've had some experience with older basements :P

I'm curious about lighting now. Basements are, well, dimly lit in general. I hope you plan for something so that everyone can see the terrain.

Anyways, on topic. You can always use mats of some sort or the other to "change" tabletops. And consider under table storage, shelves and such. It is very convenient. And there is plenty of space under a 4 x 8 :)

Right now the lighting is a little dim, but I'm going to swap out the single light bulb over the table for a 4' long florescent light fixture.

Under table storage isn't an option since people will be sitting at the table for board games and rpg, but I've got plenty of shelving for storage down there.

So due to a minor production error, I've found myself with some extra etched acrylic pieces. These are from the Warsen.al's angled planters. There were a few pieces that did not get cut. When I emailed them about this, it was very quickly resolved, so I hold no ill-will towards them, and will gladly purchase from them again.

So I was thinking about what I could do with these pieces, and came up with what I think is a brilliant idea.

First I took some plasticard tubes, and cut them down to size, with one side cut at a 45 degree angle. This was easily done with a razor saw and a miter box.

Image

Then, using this glue which claims to work on acrylic and polystyrene (plasticard):

Image

I made this:

Image

Once I stand it up, this is what I have:

Image

Solar panels for rooftops. I will probably work up some sort of wider base for it to give it a little more stability, but overall, it'll make a nice piece of cover terrain for roofs.

So what do you guys think of these?

So we played our first game on my new table yesterday. I should have taken some in-game photos, but it slipped my mind. maybe next time?

Here are some shots of the table all set up:

Image

Image

Image

Image

As you can see, the table is still very sparse. I need to get another 2 or 3 buildings to finish things off. I've got one MAS 3-story apartment building on the way.

Next, this is my most recently assembled building. This is the Garage from Shark-Mounted Lasers. He included a new roof design he's been playing with, one with a really nice domed sunroof.

Image

Door goes up! :aaa: :aaa: :aaa: :aaa: :aaa:

Image

The garage door is the real star of this building. It is cut to be a flexible piece of board, and has a track for it to slide on, just like a real garage door.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to have to acquire a couple of those SML garages, myself. Might even be one of the few things I buy in multiples!

And while Athanadros' table is a bit over-engineered, I might *yoink* that for my own table. Let's see here... a blue or black surface on the table proper for space and/or naval gaming (maybe a flippable sheet of plywood, or I might see what Vistaprint can do with some Hubble pictures on a 4x8 canvas), and the Urban/rural flippable table toppers. Then simple plastic tubs for storage underneath that I can move elsewhere if we're going to sit around the table instead of stand around it.

No pictures, but an update:

I've assembled my District 5 3-story building from MAS, and I've also create a roof for the Objective Room using a MAS District 5 Roof Pack.

The 3-story building should help with some LoS issues on the table as it stands.

Anything Athanadros is never a "bit" over-engineered S9...it is always "WAY" over-engineered!!!

Table is looking great Oreet!

small update on the Objective Room:

Interior:
The large server rack, and computer terminal are from Underground Lasers. I figure a computer server would make for a good objective.

Image

Exterior Roof:
I used a MAS roof pack to make a roof for the building. I then added 3 of my solar panels, and a large air conditioner unit from Underground Lasers. Hey, a big server needs a big air conditioner. The plasticard strip that's running down the center needs a little more attention (covering the ends).

Lots more photos:

Angled Planter set from Warsen.al. I need to purchase some plants to place inside to create low visibility zones.
Image

Planters created by a friend of mine. These needs plants as well.
Image

Using some scrap MDF and some pieces to a set from Advanced Deployment that I wasn't all that keen on, I made my own Holo-ad holders. I will make something on the computer, and print it out on some transparency sheets, and attach it to the signs.
Image

Close-ups of the solar panels I made. These were made with a sheet of etched acrylic from Warsen.al and some plasticard:

Rooftop Vents (I forget who made these, but I found them in a model train shop)

Bus Stop (I think these were from Warsen.al) and Barrier from Warmill.

Bus stop is definitely from Warsenal.

I like the combination of elements from different manufacturers, but I have a nerdy question; what is your table narrative? Urban Sprawl?

For now it is random poorly laid out urban area with barriers and crates in th middle of the streets. :P

:P Right on. I'm too obsessed with narrative to do something so functional, and must instead stare at a table for an hour wondering why the hell these ammo crates are in a walkway, could two people pass eachother without discomfort, etc.

The city is near the front line, so it was evacuated. The army will store things anywhere, and sometimes start creating defenses for the upcoming attack. :jihad:

If some items would be knocked over, it would look even more real, like if they are spent boxes, or fallen from a truck, and nobody cares anymore. Sadly not all scenery is cast and painted to be usable in any position. Rubble and trash would help with the look.

I think I need a job as table designer... :pennsive: ... :curious: ... :high:
