WWII-Era Scottish Regiments occasionally wore a grey mix of mud all over their skin to stave off heat and cold as well as provide some basic camo. Some even added in brown and black to create more complex camo.

If you can find a copy, the Privateer Press Trollbloods Army book has a great way to paint good-looking "tartan" without actually painting TARTAN.
Best explanation of the idea I've ever seen.
Overall, that's a great, clean start. The red already has some nice highlighting on it, and reds take some practice to get right.

Would this
tartan method be enough? Is it like the trollbloods one or completly different?

Probably... Though that example miniature is odd...

Not odd, just Celtos. They fight with cricket bats.

The sculpting is odd is what I meant...
Then again my group sculpted a mecha that has been lovingly deemed "Fat Man".

Yeah, and that is
Celtos style. Except if they are inconsisent with themselves, I don't call miniatures odd as most are "odd", due scale problems or design choices. I think the Celtos line comes from the 90s. Big arms (meat and metal), tiny abdomens and even torsos is Celtos design/oddness. The cricket bat thing is just what always remember first about them. They also remind me of certain comics, but hard to say which ones.

It's pretty similar.
The Brushthralls have a pretty decent online explanation, too.
http://blog.brushthralls.com/?page_id=3212The biggest thing to remember is that you aren't painting a full tartan. You're just painting what looks like a tartan. Thinned paints and nice long-bristled liner brushes are your friends for this, like my 10/0 Loew-Cornell 7050 script brush. Bristles on
that little bitty thing are about as long as my W&N S7 #3 (or a GW Large Brush), but it's tight enough that I can paint shoulderboards or rank patches on 15mm figures.

Thanks for all the feed back and advice I have had some spare time today so got abit more done. I'm not happy with how grainy some of the paint looks especially the metallics but it has come from the primer. I will strip it one day and start again but for now it's needed for an upcoming tournament I just need to paint the gloves and add some more shadows to the face and then I'm onto the Tartan, Let me know what you guy's think
Cheers Kevin

Hi guy's so I've more or less finished the Tankhunter but disappointed that the primer has ruined the paint job as it has grained and started to look worse as the paint went on but dont have time to paint it again as it for an upcoming tournament this month let me know what you guy's think
Cheers Kevin

On the back of his helmet? So his buddies can identify him on the field of battle.

Well it's been a very long time since my last update. Life got a little mad as I had 2 more children in that time but I will be posting regularly again, but will be US Adriana I hope to make my first update this weekend just waiting for my new paints to arrive. The last thing I painted was my tankhunter so may be a learning curve again[ASTONISHED FACE]
