I have just seen that vallejo model color has fluorescent paints, have you used them? Which is your opinion?

They are fluo , slightly transparent so paint over white (or a similar color, fluo orange over light orange) or it will show whatever is below, not very permanent so the effect will fade with time (that is how this pigment family is, no workaround so far other than paint over similar non fluo version, other brands also have the same issue), and a bit thicker than the rest of paints in the same range.

Try to get the Air versions when you can choose (same with metals, VMA/VGA better than VMC/VGC), or even the Premium RC (but the bottles are "huge", so you pay a lot for something you may need only a little, and I have not tested them, but I guess they are similar to the Surface Primers).

Useful for light effects or mimicing things like high-visibility clothes.

I have not tried the Vallejo line, but my experience with florescent paints in general is that they're not worth the effort.

They tend not to look as nice as other techniques, and the lighting under which they do look good is pretty rare.

I'm using fluorescent paints for the cybermuscles and glowing parts on my Yu Jing.

Get the Pro RC line, not the Vallejo Model Color set. I have both, the Pro RC paints are much better (in addition to having a greater range of colors).

Both paints are thick and slightly translucent, the Pro RC have better coverage and are thinner. You still need to lay down lots of layers to get the color saturation you need. Prime white and black wash, it will help. The challenge is getting the paints to play nice when under blacklight.

Ive got Vallejo whole set. They tend to be really thin and have really poor coverage. One of my commissioner painter is working currently lot with green fluorescent on my alephu. So far he told me that he have to mix it with small ammount of white to receive good coverage. Also that after some time paint is going to behave more like liquid green stuff

I think that 'thinness' is characteristic of all fluoresecent paints. I've played around with some craft paints that are fluorescent, and they are pretty thin too. A nice gimmick. The only painter that I've seen use them to any good effect is Savonarola on the Official Forums. You could look at his work to get an idea of the possibilities. Be warned though, his work is... well, you can see it yourself.

I've used Vallejo's Fluo paints (I'm a brand loyalist for Vallejo and Tamiya).

The paints work rather well in my opinion. I haven't really looked at them under a blacklight, though, I'd imagine the effect comes off well enough.

The paint gives a very vibrant color and good visual impact.

I've not used Pro RC, so I can't speak as to the comparison.

Thx everyone for the quick answers, this morning i bought one of each color of vallejo model color (there were not rc paints at my local hobby store) and as far as i could see in testing them on paper they all have a vibrant color except the blue one. I havent tested them yet with uv light.

Can i mix this paints without losing the fluo effect ? ( for example using the fluo color and adding shadows and light to make a sword)

You can mix, but obviously the effect will also be reduced, just like mixing red with black will give you something "not pure red".

You can mix it with paint, but it will still fluoresce as a single color under blacklight. And if you want a real fluorescent red from the Vallejo Model Color line, you need to mix fluo magenta and fluo orange 1:1.

I had to special-order the Pro RC colors.
