Loki tries to paint Haqqislam

So this thread was on the official boards. Since they're dying, I'm moving it over here. I'm looking at this as a clean start, so first up is just a dump of my finished models.

Mostly I aim for tabletop quality, due to an eye condition that simply makes it impossible to paint to the level I want (I usually cant even see some of the details on these models).

My first two models, a pair of the old Ghulam.

Next up is my old Ghulam Doctor.

Then my Ghulam Panzerfaust.

First Nasmat.

My friend, you are not trying: you are succeeding!

Seconded :)

If anything, please consider trying to take better photos. A simple sheet of white paper behind the model would make the pics way better :)

Looking good. It´s always nice to see some other attempts on Haqqislam. Keep us updated.

I'll give that a try later.

For now - Fiday done.

This one gave me particular problems. For one, the spider veins on the legs. I just can't paint them. They're wonky. Second was the hair. I really wanted to practice my Symbiont Armour technique on something like this, and I think the orange came out really nicely. But It also came out too bright for this model. I decided to keep it, as a model to stand with my Hawwa Snipers bright pink hair.

Also because I have so many models to paint I didn't want to get hung up on some small details, especially on a model that will spend its life as a token 90% of the time, and when it finally hits the table it'll go down in flames.

For once I'm actually quite happy with the result.

I completely forgot I had this thread. Since the official forums auto archived my thread, I'm not bothering to resurrect it there - I paint so slowly that it'll just get archived again. So I'll keep on going here.

Here's what I completed since I left off. Bit of an image dump, I've actually completed a lot since my last post.

Final Muyib done.
Image

Final old Ghulam rifle done.
Image

Asawira Spitfire done.
Image

Old Naffatun done.
Image

Kum riders - basicallt I want every bike to be a different colour to reinforce the whole 'individual' aspect of them, but their gear would be issued by the Haqqislam military in operations so their armour and weapons match the rest of the army.
Kum rider Rifle done.
Image

Kum rider Chain rifle done.
Image

Kum rider biker swap done.
Image
Image

Spitfire Sekban done.
Image

Here I've tried using some white backgrounds to help with contrast for my latest batch.

Why such festive colors on the bikes?

...they're stolen aren't they? :thoughtful:

Basically because I wanted to paint some different colours. Green and tan and brown gets boring after a while. Got another 4 bikers in the drawer for when I feel the need to paint something new.

What, your command doesn't issue enough ammo? Take some of mine. Slightly used, of course.

Excuse the shinyness, it's got a layer of satin varnish and I'm out of dullcote.

Nice! I totally feel you on the painting problem, my backlog of nekkid Yu Jing is downright intimidating, and the Hassassin (and Janissaries) are actually worse, they're all bare metal. Then there's my Nomads (all bare metal), and PanO/Knights (all bare metal). My Ariadna is half-done, but I think I'm going to restart it when I figure out the paint scheme.

Thanks.

I've actually packed my Tohaa away into my big 1520XL case, where they will stay, with no additions, until I work my way through my Haqqislam.

However, the good news is the weather is cooling off. We had a terrible run of 30+ degree days from before Christmas to the end of March, where it was so hot that the paint would dry on your brush before you could paint much. That's over, and I'm itching to do some more painting.

Jannisary Doc already has a lot of colour blocking done, and I want to finish all the Jannisarys before I move on. I might get my Sekban done between Jannisarys though, as they've had their colour blocking and wash done, and just need layering and highlighting on the pistol guy and shotgun guy.

I also have Kasym Beg in progress, but he's a big model he'll take a while.

I don't think my stuff is nice enough to warrant setting up a photo booth for them. I just like to document my slow progress.

Some work over the weekend. Test scheme for my Yu Jing. I wanted to do the orange studio scheme but brushing on orange is about as fun as bashing my dick with a hammer, so I fell back to two colours I like painting - grey and purple. I've done one level higher on the purple edge highlighting, but these photos were before it.

Image
Image

Also I figured my Haqqislam really should have something to fight for. HVT done. Protect the councellor! I didn't want to use any military colours on her, since she's not military, so I was experimenting with some stuff. Did the orange on this a while ago then just stopped, so it's got no relation to this weekends ragequit on painting orange.

The Haqq and YJ look great!

I also paint most of the really long goofy braids/ponytails/other pieces of hair in bright colours. Pinks, blues, vivid reds - I don't make that many concessions to Infinity's anime inspiration but that is one I indulge in.

I really must get a copy of that Haqq Councillor HVT, it's a nice figure and the detail on the coat looks awesome.

Really like the Haqq councellor, bright colors seem to be perfect for her (and her bodyguard group of Odalisques).

Thanks guys. I really like the Councellor miniature. I was think of doing the RPG model the same colours.

I've done a bit since September, but bear in mind the weather has been really bad for spray varnish so they're all a bit shiny due to still being in Satin varnish. First up I finished a couple of miniatures that have been sitting incomplete in my backlog for a while - Najjarun and Ghazi Muttawi'ah with Shotgun.

I tried a new method of highlighting the tan areas with the earlier Azra'il, Jannisarys and the Ghazi and Najjarun. I'm not a fan, it's not defined enough, so with Tarik I've gone back to the original method. Not sure if I'll go back and redo the earlier models.

Then I took a break from the older models in the collection to paint the awesome new Khawarijs and the Al Fasid from Red Veil.

Then back to the older models, a WIP of Tarik Mansuri.

Finished another old model that's been in my backlog for far too long - the mighty Maghariba. Now to get it on the table a bunch of times before my willpower check fails and I buy the new one.

Much like the Maghariba, this has been in my queue for about 2 years waiting to be finished.

Is that Maghariba on a 70mm base? If so, how'd you get her to fit?

It's actually an 80mm base. I bought it before the silhouette rules, and wasn't going to get a new base since I was half done with painting it.

Personal best - three and a half weeks, seven finished miniatures from metal to done.

Started with Leila Sharif, since I really want to use her more. While painting here, I figured I might try to knock out a couple of really old models from my collection. So I grabbed the last two 1st edition Ghulam, the Hacker and HMG. As I neared finishing them, I decided to also knock out my three Hafza. As they neared completion, I decided to do my Al Hawwa Hacker. Then I decided that was enough and I really shoudl just finish painting them all.
